Leadership · Fractional CFO

Senior financial leadership without hiring a full-time executive.

Some businesses need CFO-level judgment on strategy, cash, capital, and growth. That need often comes long before they can justify a full-time CFO on payroll. We give you that experienced leadership when you need it — without the permanent cost.

CFO-level thinking, sized to what the business actually needs.

Why companies bring in a fractional CFO

The decisions have outgrown the finance you have.

Your bookkeeper and controller keep the numbers accurate and the business running. But strategy, capital, and financing need a different level of experience. So do the biggest decisions.

A full-time CFO is expensive — often more than the business needs. The gap is real judgment on the hardest financial questions, not another full-time salary.

See how we can help
  • Growth decisions are getting bigger, and the cost of getting them wrong is rising.
  • You're raising money, refinancing, or managing bank relationships without a finance leader.
  • An acquisition or expansion is on the table, and it needs a proper look.
  • The board or investors expect reporting and financial leadership you can't yet staff.
  • The finance team needs structure, direction, and someone senior to answer to.
  • You need CFO-level thinking — but not a full-time CFO's salary.
The need is judgment at the top of the finance function. The answer doesn't have to be a permanent hire.

Three ways to engage

Match the level of leadership to the business.

Not every company needs the same thing. We offer three models — so you get the right amount of CFO, and no more.

Ongoing · part-time

Fractional CFO

Ongoing, part-time leadership for businesses that need CFO-level thinking but not a full-time CFO. We plug in at the pace you need — a steady rhythm of strategy, planning, and decision support.

  • Regular strategic and financial guidance
  • Forecasting and capital decisions
  • Banking and board-level support
Best for steady, ongoing needs
Broader responsibility

Outsourced CFO

Broader responsibility for the whole finance function, backed by our accounting and controller team. We don't just advise. We run finance end to end — from the books at the bottom to the strategy on top.

  • Full finance-function ownership
  • Backed by accounting and controller support
  • One accountable partner for finance
Best for a complete outsourced function
Temporary · a transition

Interim CFO / Controller

Experienced leadership that steps in to keep things running during a departure, transition, or search for a permanent hire. Then we hand off cleanly.

  • Immediate, temporary coverage
  • Stability during change
  • Clean handoff to your permanent hire

Not sure which fits? Start with a conversation, and we'll suggest the right model for where the business is today.

A CFO leads with numbers. Strong budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning are the engine that makes CFO-level decisions possible.

Alongside: Interim Financial Leadership

Need leadership now, for a defined stretch — a departure, a transition, a search? That's an interim engagement rather than an ongoing one.

Most clients grow into CFO support from the levels below. You don't switch providers as your needs grow — the finance function grows with the business.

Questions

Fractional CFO questions, answered

What's the difference between a fractional CFO and an outsourced CFO?

A fractional CFO gives ongoing, part-time senior leadership — CFO-level thinking at the pace you need. An outsourced CFO takes on the whole finance function, backed by our accounting and controller team. Fractional is a seat at the top. Outsourced is the top plus everything underneath.

How is this different from a full-time CFO?

You get the same judgment on strategy, capital, and the biggest decisions — without a full-time salary, benefits, and equity. Many businesses need CFO-level thinking well before they can justify a permanent CFO on payroll.

When does a company actually need a CFO?

Usually when the decisions outgrow the finance function. You may be raising capital, weighing an acquisition or new location, managing bank relationships, or answering to a board — with no senior finance leader to own it. If the numbers are accurate but nobody leads the strategy behind them, that's CFO-level work.

What if I only need leadership temporarily?

Then you likely need interim support rather than ongoing support. We step in as interim CFO or controller during a departure, transition, or search for a permanent hire — and hand off cleanly. See Interim Financial Leadership.

Do you work with our existing accounting team?

Yes. A fractional CFO often leads and directs an existing bookkeeper, controller, or accounting team. With an outsourced CFO engagement, we can also supply the accounting and controller support underneath — whichever fits your setup.

Do you prepare our tax returns?

No. CFO leadership and tax preparation work side by side. We coordinate with your tax CPA and keep the financial picture clean and strategic. We don't prepare tax returns unless that's added to your engagement.
