Why we exist
The owner shouldn't have to become the accounting department.
And a company shouldn't have to hire an entire finance department before it can benefit from one. Between doing it all yourself and building a full team in-house, there's a gap. That gap is what we fill.
The idea
There's a gap between doing it yourself and hiring a whole department.
Most growing businesses fall into it. The owner is stretched too thin to keep running the books well, but the company isn't ready to hire a controller, an FP&A analyst, and a CFO.
So the numbers slip. The close runs late. Cash gets hard to read. Decisions get made on gut instead of information. Not because anyone did anything wrong — because the business outgrew its finance function faster than it could staff one.
We built Back End Solutions to fill that gap: a complete finance function, provided from the outside, at exactly the level the business needs today.
The owner's problem
You're good at running the company — not at being its accounting department. Every hour on the books is an hour off the business.
The hiring problem
A full finance team is expensive, hard to manage, and rarely needed all at once. Most companies can't justify it before they've grown into it.
What we do about it
We provide the finance function as a service — right-sized now, expandable later — so you get the capability without carrying every role on payroll.
Our philosophy
We take ownership of the finance side.
The work matters because of what it gives you: more time, clearer numbers, better cash visibility, and better decisions.
Take ownership.
You run the business — customers, operations, growth. We take responsibility for the finance function behind it, and give you the information to lead.
Make the numbers useful.
Clean books are just the foundation. The real value is knowing what they mean — where cash is going, what's profitable, and what to do next.
Build what the business needs.
We recommend the level of support you actually need today, then expand it as the business grows.
Speak plainly.
We explain the numbers in plain English — cash, profitability, performance, risk, and decisions. No accounting jargon.
Who we serve
From owner-operated to mid-market.
The gap shows up at every size — it just looks different. We meet each business where it is and scale the finance function from there.
Owners who'd rather run the business than the books
You want the financial side handled properly — books, payroll, cash, reporting — so you can focus on customers and the work you actually do. Contractors and skilled trades included.
Accounting for small business Growing and mid-marketCompanies that have outgrown basic accounting
You need stronger reporting, forecasting, controls, or finance leadership — without building an entire department internally before you're ready for it.

How we're different
A finance function that grows with the business.
Most companies stitch together a bookkeeper, a CPA, and eventually a controller — different providers, different handoffs, restarting the relationship every time the needs get bigger.
We do it differently: one relationship across four levels. You start where you are and move along the continuum — operational accounting, controller, FP&A, fractional CFO — without switching firms as your needs get more sophisticated.
See how we workWhat we stand for
Principles, not slogans.
These are about how we work — the approach we bring to every engagement, whatever the size of the business.
01
Process
Repeatable systems beat heroics. We build a financial operation that runs on a schedule, not on scramble.
02
Expertise
We lead with real financial judgment — from a bookkeeper's discipline to a CFO's perspective — applied to your business.
03
Clarity
Numbers only help if you can use them. We report in plain language, tied to cash, margins, and decisions.
04
Ownership
When we take a function, we take responsibility for it. It gets done, done right, and done on time.
The team
The people behind the work.
Two people, one standard: build a reliable foundation, then use it to run the business better.
Founder
Andrew
More than fifteen years in finance and accounting — analyzing performance, building models, reviewing controls, investigating complex issues, and turning numbers into something decision-makers can use.
That work spans construction, government contracting, consumer products, hospitality, defense, and nonprofit. Different industries, different models, different challenges. But the need is always the same: reliable numbers, strong processes, and someone who can turn them into better decisions.

What that taught me
Good financial management is more than accurate books and financial statements. The accounting has to be right, but that's only the starting point.
The real value is in using the numbers — understanding what's happening and why, managing cash, knowing your margins, weighing an investment, forecasting what's ahead, and spotting risk early. Build a reliable financial foundation, then use it to run the business better.
Why I built Back End Solutions
Most growing companies hit the same point. The finance side gets too complex to run on the side, but the company may not be ready to hire a full team — a bookkeeper, a controller, an FP&A analyst, and a CFO.
That leaves a gap: reporting slips, cash gets harder to manage, profit is murky, and decisions get made without solid numbers. Back End Solutions fills that gap — your finance and accounting, run from the outside, at the level the business needs today.
Outside the numbers
Andrew is a father of three, so there isn't much actual downtime. When he's not working or spending time with his family, there's a good chance he's underwater playing hockey or working out.
Fractional CTO
Matt
Twenty years building the systems companies run on — leading engineering teams, shipping software, and solving the hard problems behind compliance, payments, identity, and security.
That work comes from places where scale isn't optional — Stripe, Slack, and Rivian. The infrastructure has to work. The data has to be right. The systems have to hold up under real pressure. The need is the same as finance: reliable systems, strong architecture, and someone who can turn technology into better outcomes.
What that taught me
Good technology is more than standing up tools and writing code. The real value is in how it fits together — connecting the right platforms, securing the data, and building a foundation that grows with the business, so the technology serves the company instead of the other way around.
What that means for our clients
The tech side gets too complex to run on the side, but you're not ready for a full technology team. Matt has closed that gap as a fractional CTO at several startups — getting small firms set up so the tools, the data, and the infrastructure actually support the work they do every day.
Outside the numbers
When Matt isn't digging into a business problem, there's a decent chance he's digging into something else — his garden. And when he's not there, you'll probably find him walking his dogs or getting in a workout.
